For me I believe there's some merit to that. It certainly wasn't a good feeling watching the play of our team in the opener. After months of anticipation we looked out classed, out coached and out played in all phases. But if we had a patsy in the Bronco's place I wonder how long it would've taken us to get our bearings straight. After all, as ugly as the Carolina loss was there was definite improvement from week one to week two. Two cupcakes within the first three weeks could've spelled an early season of more questions than answers.Q: Is there any regret to scheduling Boise State in the opener?A: "No. I think what that did was allow us to be on the big stage and really focus all our offseason programs into knowing that there was a tremendous task at hand in game number one. There were a lot of upward trends that were very positive, and we just stacked those on top of each other."I think the Boise State game was a great indicator. When you do that, and Virginia Tech bought into this last year after playing Boise State that first game, it tells you so much about your team very quickly. It really reveals your strengths and weaknesses against a top-flight opponent, so when we entered conference play, we were not searching and finding out about our team. I think McGarity knows his stuff and I agree completely with his logic. Our program should not shy away from the national stage with out of conference opponents.
If the plan worked so well, was isn't he scheduling other top 5 teams for openers? His actions prove he knows he made a huge mistake.
McGarity is wrong. Recruiting year wasn't because of the Boise game, that's ridiculous. If anything, by not extending Richt's contract last season, McGarity HURT recruiting, we likely lost some who thought Richt's job status was too uncertain.
Pulling a sure win vs. L Ville for a sure loss vs. Boise was a collasal error and almost derailed the entire season, thankfully, we were bailed out by a strong of 10 games against teams who didn't end up in the top 25 rankings. The 10 wins didn't have anything to do with losing to Boise. More with a weak schedule after week 2 UGA's former AD had put together.
The players numbers show they wern't in great shape, look at the 4th quarter numbers. I don't know what team McGarity was looking at.
Off field behavior was not due to Boise either. McGarity as Asst AD at UF had one of the worst off field behaviors in the nation. The change there was due to players internally taking charge of standards. Had nothing to do with Greg McGarity.
UGA got outscored 67 to 78 in the 4th qrtr.

Conditioning? Did he watch the 2nd half of the LSU game?
We've bene in the top 10 in recruiting for the last 10 years under Richt. So last year's recruiting class had nothing to do with Greg McGarity. According to recruits, Ray Drew was the catalyst, not Greg McGarity or Boise State. Didn't hear 1 recruit say the Boise game was why he chose Georgia.
The question was whether he regretted scheduling the Boise St. game. His reasoning is sound... recruiting was a small fraction of the logic.
I don't think Crowell got the conditioning since he didn't get to campus last spring. Hopefully it will pay off this year.

10 out of 12 Sec teams didn't schedule a top 5 team for the opening game. Since McGarity is 1 of 2, and the other guys are 10 out of 12, McGarity's in the small minority. Only 3 teams in the nation opened against a top 10 ranked team. Either all 117 other teams are wrong, or McGarity is. McGarity's among a 2% minority who believes it's intelligent to open against a top 5 ranked team. The other 117 schools think it was a dumb move.
