Victory formation

Florida sucks

Let's do this!

Today's keys

I think it boils down to:

- offensive line play
- getting the punt off
- and (as usual) protecting the football

Do those three things well, consistently...and we extend the streak to a third win.

Go Dawgs!

Gator killer - Murray

Can he get a third in Jax? Not many Georgia quarterbacks can claim that.

Friday Misery - Hunker Down like Nat did.

Look, I've been short of analysis too. Some of that might be the 4-3 record. No, actually I think it has more to do with the timing. Occasionally the WLOCP is molested by this pagan holiday called Halloween. It's is infringed upon and it is interfered with to unreasonable degrees.

I recall one year (much like next year to be honest) when Nama and I made sure our kids didn't get any razor blades in their candy bags on Friday night, hopped a plane early Saturday and were God's own Cocktail Party drunk by 10am in Jacksonville.

It may take a village to raise a youngun. But it takes some serious gotdamn planning some years to keep up more than appearances at the WLOCP.
Haters gon' lose.

Anyway, all that to say that things have been crazy this week. I've sucked (more than usual) as a blogger. And now I'm leaving. There's no time left. The car's packed and the scoreboard says I'm behind.

So here goes..

Two minute drill
All week long I've been honoring special Bulldogs who've had their moments in the Cocktail Party; I've been looking for the right person(s) to exemplify exactly what we need to beat these gotdamn lizards.

*spike*

Look, we've just got to hunker down. We've got to treat special teams like an honest to God actual phase of the game. We've got to go three, four, three and a half yards and a cloud of dust. We've got to remind these gator fans, even the ones that have never witnessed a tackle football game prior to 1990, what a looosing streak feels like.

"Gators, gators, how'd ya like to bite my ass?!?"

*spike*

Nice move Dawgs. Big gain and a first down. Time to punch these gators in their piehole.
Hey...we got this y'all.

Cuz, these reptiles are a different breed. We have to play like we own this bitch. This game is ours and they can only pretend to claim it. We're the 8th grade bully holding the ball sky high at arms length. They're the little pipsqueak that can't reach it if they tried. They're the guy that's been a gator all his life. Ripped up his UGA diploma and donned a pair of jorts.

Sad. Real sad.

*timeout*

Manage yourself. Manage your drunk. Manage your timeouts. Snap. Hold. Kick!

Sucks to be a gator y'all. See ya in Jacksonville. And if you can't manage to support the team...regardless of the score...regardless of your lameass lameassedness...regardless of you being in your time of the month...stay the hell home and go get yourself a pedicure.

The rest of us got this. Jacksonville bows to our supremacy. Come Sunday we say, "We came, we saw, we hunkered. Just like Nat did."

Go Dawgs!

Gator killer - Nat Hudson

In my mind the greatest gator killer of them all. Nat Hudson hunkered. He made the block. When his quarterback needed an extra second to find the receiver, which would extend the winning streak, beat Florida and keep a national title game's hope alive, he made the block. He dug deep and smacked a damn gator.

God bless you Nat Hudson!

Maybe...maybe...baby...

With all due respect, maybes ain't gon' cut it come Saturday.
Trent Frix and Nathan Theus are competing this week for the gig after punter Collin Barber couldn’t handle a high snap from Frix in the loss at Vanderbilt on a costly special teams blunder.
“We’ve kind of opened the competition back up and really analyzed what both those guys are doing,” said assistant coach John Lilly, who oversees the unit and makes the decision. “That’s the great thing about an open week. It gives you a little bit more time to work on some of those things. I think we’ve cleaned up maybe some of the techniques things that maybe could cause something to go awry. We’ll find out as we play the rest of the season." [emphasis added]
Like Blutarsky said, with the bye week, more time and all that, why not open up the gates and cast a wider net?

Gator killer - Knowshon Moreno

33 carries.
188 yards.
3 touchdowns.
Baller.

Chris DiMarco shows off his two-bit t-shirt

Every now and then you run across someone that has actually been to "The Swamp", the field where Florida plays their home games. Not many Georgia fans have been there since our annual renewal of the rivalry is played in neutral Jacksonville. But back in 1994 and 1995 as Jacksonville's stadium was being rebuilt, Georgia traveled to Gainesville and then Florida returned the favor in Athens the following year.

If you were there (along with Nama and Ann as the only people I actually know who went and survived the 1994 trek to Gainesville), please accept my deep appreciation.

For the rest of us, this is evidently a tradition for the gators...

Cute huh? Bet DiMarco's shirt came free with the purchase of two pairs of jorts.

Larry Eustachy acknowledges your game Carl Pelini

Really only because this gives me an excuse to post one (or two) of my favorite all time pics in all of college athletics. That and the thought of a couple coaches blazing one up in the FAU Owls' film room gives me a chuckle.

Oh yeh. Get your creep on Larry. Then make room in the basement for another disgraced coach. Bo's bro is moving in!

Don't look now...

But florida is pulling ahead in the injury race.

It ain't December yet.

Look, I get it. I hear all the clamoring about how great Alabama is. There is no question (and hasn't been for some time actually) that they are not only the class of the SEC, but the standard for winning across the nation.

But to just give up as some twitters and message bored posts and bookface updates would suggest is as far out of the question as Kentucky winning the national championship this season. There's a reason players start preparing on cold January mornings. There's a reason coaches live at the athletic facilities during the season. It's to play the season out. It's to take each game one at a time. The next game is the most important game. And the next one happens to be in Jacksonville!

It may be cliche to say, stranger things have happened when talking about Georgia's chances at going back to Atlanta. But it's only fair to ask - doesn't the team deserve our support from the start of the season through til the finish? Is it worth turning your back on Aaron Murray and Garrison Smith and every player in red and black to invest in whatever likelihood there is at being right about Alabama winning the conference?

It's a steady limb for sure. But is it a comfortable one?

Gator killer - Bill Stanfill

Stephen Orr Spurrier'a therapist assures him that Bill Stanfill can no longer stand in the way of his goals, hurt him, or dismember him in any way.

But that doesn't stop the nightmares.

Humpday Hilarity - gators shopping in Atlanta

h/t Mac

Maybe you've heard this one before. But I've taken some liberties with the butts of the joke given the level of hate this week.
Bubba and Billy Bob are walking down the street in Athens, and they see a sign on a store which reads, "Suits $5.00 each! , shirts $2.00 each, trousers $2.50 each. "

Bubba says to his pal, " Billy Bob , look here! We could buy a whole gob of
these, take 'em back to Gainesville , sell 'em to our friends, and make a
fortune. Just let me do the talkin' 'cause if they hear your swampy accent,
they might think we're igorant and won't wanna sell that stuff to us. Now,
I'll talk in a slow Georgia drawl so's they don't know we is from Florida."

They go in and Bubba says with his best fake Georgia drawl, "I'll take 50 of
them suits at $5.00 each, 100 of them there shirts at $2.00 each, 50 pairs
of them there trousers at $2.50 each. I'll back up my pickup and..."

The owner of the shop interrupts, "Ya'll are Florida fans, ain't ya?"

"Well...yeah," says a surprised Bubba...."How come you knowed that?"

"Because this is a dry cleaners"

Florida, America's wang

An oldie but a goodie, courtesy of The Anti-Orange Page.

Are we ready for disappointment?

Logan gives me a headache with this. His essential question is are the fans ready for the disappointment of losing the SECCG should the Dawgs make it there?
And while you enjoy winning those games, why don’t you silently root for Missouri to knock off Tennessee and Texas A&M so that they can be the ones with long faces as they make the slow walk out of the Georgia Dome in the middle of the third quarter as the pompous, arrogant, self-deserving fans of the Crimson Tide mock them, and not you, as they begin celebrating their third consecutive trip to the BCS championship game.
I guess my only answer would be, if the team is suiting up, I'm ready to follow. God knows I didn't become a Georgia fan to pick and choose the battles. My feeling has always been, if we're given an "extra" game, count me in!

Gator killer - William Larry Muschamp

I'm sure gonna smell these later.

No green for Gurley!

Wahoo! 100% of precincts reporting...

S&C issues, or just dumb luck?

In case you missed it, Blutarsky posted this link Friday - a reddit post someone constructed blasting the Georgia S&C program for all of the injuries this season. A loyal reader had sent me the link, I sat on it and have just let it stew a bit. Because truly, I'm just a blogger. Like The Senator says, I don't know enough about exercise science to discount what this person says.

But I do know that the strength and conditioning program has been doing its job the last few years. What we need from it is to build bodies, construct leadership and unify the team as a whole. You remember Richt's Energy bus right? You're either on it or not. Childish concept that can translate across countless contexts. And when you consider where we were under Van Halanger prior to Joe Tereshinski taking over, we've grown by leaps and bounds. We were a program that was embarrassingly lax in terms of putting guys in the weight room and getting them ready for a slate of SEC games against teams with equal or better facilities and superior accountability.

The poster goes to great lengths to explain their knowledge of what is happening with Georgia's injuries. It appears (at least at face value on the internet) that he/she has some expertise in the area of strength and conditioning. So it's hard to discount some of what he/she writes. But for me, it completely breaks down here:
After being fed up with the conditioning, Van Halanger was moved to "Director of Player Welfare" (whatever that is) in 2011 and Joe Tereshinski Jr. was promoted to Director of S&C. The Tereshinski name is engrained at UGA – Something like 4 generations of players have now come through the program. Tereshinski Jr. graduated in 1977 and had been working as an assistant strength coach at UGA since 1982, and he learned everything he knows from whom? You guessed it, Van Halanger.
Um...no. Not at all. If Coach T had learned everything he knows from Coach Van then we'd still have players dieting at Waffle House and being told "Eh, it's okay son. You can come do those lifts on [insert undisclosed, unaccounted time in the not so foreseeable future]."

Actually, it starts to break down for me back at the LSU game. Todd Gurley has been our biggest loss. By far. He's that big of a difference maker. He's that big of a game changer. He makes the offense lethal just by lining up behind Murray. He also makes the defense better just by lining up behind Murray. And you can't tell me that his injury has anything to do with what our Strength and Conditioning Program is or isn't doing.

Look, I get it. We haven't seen this many injuries in I don't know when. And I hope we don't see this many again in my lifetime.  Again, like Blutarsky said it's only natural to look for reasons that aren't labeled "dumb luck". And I can see where having a guy that's been around the program for decades, like Coach T has, running a component of said program (without Univ. of Miami endorsement in strength and conditioning like this reddit character) would cause some questions. But if you do then you've never met the guy and you've never taken the time to understand how closely cut this family is from the University of Georgia.

Which is part of the reason he's in the position as director of S&C in the first place. And is exactly the reason we're cheering on an actual, honest to God football team rather than a bunch of self-absorbed knuckleheads more interested in their tainted view of the life as a football player than they are playing the game itself.

Shorter Bianchi: Muschamp no Maximus Decimus

Any chance I get to use a reference to this movie.
It can't be good for Muschamp that the Orlando Sentinel troll dog himself is on his side. Or is he? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Regardless Bianchi cuts to the chase here:
But Muschamp better quickly liven up his offense or Florida Field will be like a morgue next season. Many Gator fans weren't enamored with Muschamp's style even when he was winning games. The already-dwindling season-ticket base will shrivel up even more if the Gators continue to lose. And, let's face it, when the customers stop buying your product in any business, people start losing their jobs.
In today's economic climate, fans aren't going to invest thousands of dollars to show up at a stadium and watch a bad, boring offense. In this era of offensive football, fans not only want to win, they want to be entertained.
Right now, the Gators aren't winning and they aren't entertaining.
This is a lethal combination for a football coach.
Playing the economic climate card is the kiss of death in discussions about college football coaches' records. In Gainesville it seems poor Will is a victim of his offense's own ineptitude.

But still hard to feel sorry for a guy who's been a "gator his whole life".

Battered, bruised and unranked

Having not mastered the intricacies of the ranking system in college football (and really, who has?), my youngest is pissed Georgia's not ranked. I think at the voters somehow, and at the way the season has unfolded.

That aside, I started to read this with a chip on my shoulder. Bruised ego? But then, it was hard to dispute.
There's a new entry on Georgia's lengthy injury list:
Bruised ego.
In only three weeks, Georgia has dropped from No. 6 to being unranked in The Associated Press Top 25. The stunned Bulldogs (4-3, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) have an off week to assess the damage, attempt to correct mistakes and hope some injured players can heal before their Nov. 2 game against Florida.
The South Carolina win made this game a bit more interesting. But at its core, it'll still be a grudge match for bragging rights. Which is what Lynch reminds us:
“We're going to use this bye week to get healthy and come back,” said senior tight end Arthur Lynch. “It's our biggest rival, in my opinion. You beat Florida and you just can build so much momentum from that one win it can catapult us to winning out, hopefully. That's our plan. That's what we're going to try to execute.”
