WR Recruitin' Heats Up

AJC's recruiting guru Michael Carvell is reporting that newly appointed Dawg receivers coach Tony Ball spent some time on the phone with Tennessee commit Je'Ron Stokes, a 6' 1" 170lb prospect out of Philadelphia. And invitation to campus this weekend could be extended.

The Dawgs are scrambling for some fresh competition to the spot opposite some kid out of Summerville, SC. Cameron Kenney spurned the Dawgs this past weekend for a chance to play catch with Sam Bradford. Before Kenney even left campus Sunday, Ball had contacted Miller Grove's Stephen Hill, a Tech commit. Miller entertained the offer, but stuck to his pledge with North Avenue.

Marlon Brown is undoubtedly the Dawgs' top target at WR in this class. But he has offers from coast to coast.

The Dawgs lost MoMass and Demiko Goodman to graduation. Durham, Moore, Wilson and King (Tavarres, not Caleb) are expected to push for more time. Id you missed it, Hale's blog has some quotes from Joe Cox on the competition at WR as well.

We don't need to loose these kids down the stretch. But I would like to hear we're hard after a few more offensive linemen. If we don't land more than just the two verbals we have, we're going to be right back in this lack of depth/experience thing in a couple of years. I was hoping we would solve this delimma after all of our OL troubles...

I think we're set at O line as far as who we're focused on in this class. Lee of Buford is already enrolled, Long and Burnette are solid verbals. And we're in the hunt for that Massie kid from Hargrave (an absolute beast) and Geathers (from the long line of Geathers) who cold play either side of the ball.

If we hold onto the commits as expected and land either or both of those guys we'd have an even better, deeper line in '10.

Yea, that does sound much better!

WHY!? Dang you Kenney! And good'ole Demiko. He will be missed. I don't suppose he has a good shot at getting drafted, since we never played him anyway. Poor guy. He could be a GREAT receiver. But he won't be, because no one is going to see how well he plays.
