Happy 4th of July!

I hope you are enjoying your 4th with family and friends. I had planned a larger post but the WiFi here is as cranky as I am when my grits get cold. But the links below are important enough to share even though I can't embed the video. (h/t Mac)

Thanks to our servicemen and women who helped male this day (and everyday) special for the USA!

"[Grits m]ust be served hot. Cold grits tend to get gummy. You wouldn't serve cold, gummy grits to Communist sympathizers from New York."

My all-time favorite Lewis Grizzard line.

Well, that and the one about the 300 50-yard line tickets for The Citadel game against the NATS.

My Aunt Velma... a very sweet southern woman, would pour the left over breakfast grits into a cornbread pan. When we got in from play in the afternoon, she would cut the hardened grits into squares and fry them on the stove. Serving them up with Karo syrup and fried spam. I don't eat spam and fried grits today....but it seemed perfectly fine at the time. And as I recall....very tasty!
